Groundhog Day...Literally!

D.J. #1: Okay, campers, rise and shine, and don't forget your booties 'cause it's cooooold out there today.
D.J. #2: It's coooold out there every day. What is this, Miami Beach?
D.J. #1: Not hardly. And you know, you can expect hazardous travel later today with that, you know, that, uh, that
blizzard thing.
D.J. #2: [mockingly] That blizzard - thing. That blizzard - thing. Oh, well, here's the report! The National Weather Service is calling for a "big blizzard thing!"
D.J. #1: Yessss, they are. But you know, there's another reason why today is especially exciting.
D.J. #2: Especially cold!
D.J. #1: Especially cold, okay, but the big question on everybody's lips...
D.J. #2: - On their chapped lips...
D.J. #1: - On their chapped lips, right: Do ya think Phil is gonna come out and see his shadow?
D.J. #2: Punxsutawney Phil!
D.J. #1: That's right, woodchuck-chuckers - it's...
D.J. #1, D.J. #2: [in unison] GROUNDHOG DAY!

It's ironic that today is Groundhog Day because, like the movie, I sort of feel like I've lived this day before.

School Canceled - Snow Storm - Stay if PJs - fire up the crockpot - bake cookies - shovel the stairs - try to squeeze in grad school work between grading 3rd grade work between playing with the littles...

Oh wait.

I have lived this day before.

Last week.

And the week before that.

And the week before that.

AND the week. before. THAT!

We are on our 5th

make that FIFTH

actually...make the #$!@ FIFTH SNOW DAY since we returned from Winter Break on January 2nd. This puts our current last day of school at June 28th. UGH!

We actually had school yesterday as 9-12" inches fluttered down outside...and nobody paid attention to it.

A plow came barreling by within 6 feet of the classroom window - 5 times - and nobody even looked up.

It's becoming the norm. You can tell it's getting old when your class of third graders begs you to send home all of Wednesday's work on Tuesday because they want to do it at home if there is a snowday and not make the day up in June.

I wish it worked like that.

How's the weather in your neck of the woods?

We are on our fifth snow day since winter break here too. I only wish we had the pretty fluffy snow- in Missouri it's only ice! I'm so ready to get back, especially since whatever day we go back on is our 100th day!

I hear you about the snow days! I think this school's got the right idea though... they send home "Blizzard Bags" and if 80% of the students get it done, they don't have to make up that day at the end! What a fantastic idea! http://www.kearsarge.org/1106109711213720/site/default.asp?1106Nav=|&NodeID=909

I'm in your region, I believe, and we have another too! This is our 4th though. What makes me a bit nervous is, how long will this snowy pattern last???

Have fun with your family today! :)

I live in Texas and we are on our second snow day with temperatures in the teens with a negative chill factor. We are setting records of cold temperatures. The bad part is we don't have snow plows so we have to wait for the snow to melt which it won't till about Saturday. The city is pretty much shut down.

We have a snow day today also....really we are troopers out here (Rochester, NY) when it comes to snow. There was so much hype about this big storm coming I think that's why all the schools closed....and there is hardly anything! Now we will have to come to school the Friday before Memorial Day to make this up. I'm sorry you will be staying so late in June...our last day is always around June 22rd.

We're snowed in today too but I'm not complaining AT ALL because it is my FIRST snowday of the entire school year so far. We get 4 built in and in all of my time in this state, we've never gone beyond our regular school year calendar to make them up. Never.

Ugh!!!! Philly is sick of this weather!!! The first 2 days were kind of fun, but we had off yesterday in anticipation of a wintry mix that never happened, which has only further enraged me. We are off today for actual ice. I don't even know what it's going to be like to work a 5-day week anymore!

In the midwest here and on our 4th snowday. Yuck. However, we have 5 snowdays built into our schedule so I'm ok as long as we don't gave 2 more snowdays. I am a little sad that I didn't get to celebrate Groundhogs day with my students.

I live in Texas and we are on our 4th snow day THIS WEEK. It was fun the first day, but now I'm going crazy. It isn't supposed to be like this in Texas! It is supposed to be hot and humid already! This weather better clear up and go away because I am ready to get back to my class!
